On a yearly base, ponds will continually receive and capture surrounding, falling or blowing debris that eventually sinks and rests on your ponds bottom. The debris such as leaves, branches, grasses, dirt, gravel, dead fish/animals, fecal matter and ground water run-off will begin to decompose and add nutrients to your water. Importantly as this debris decomposes it creates more of this unwanted organic soil and nutrients in your pond. This bed of organic soil and nutrients then allows for the increased growth of more unwanted aquatic plants. Every year this cycle continues and increases with more pond bottom soil thus allowing for the unwanted new aquatic plant growth. You would think that the soil, nutrients and aquatic plant growth is good, but to the contrary new aquatic plant growth each year dies, decays and decomposes in your pond. When this occurs, the decaying aquatic plants produces more nutrients such as Nitrogen, Phosphorus and utilizes more of the existing pond water oxygen. When this occurs, you will tend to see more algae growth, pond water odour and potential fish kill off. For these reasons, pond excavation can and should be considered an option!
Upon reviewing your pond, we will need to decide if pond excavation is an option for you. The review is to determine if excavation equipment, tractors, dump trailers, pumps and vehicles are accessible to the pond area. Also, on-site or off-site removal of the organic soil, aquatic weeds and other will be determined. My excavation team is extremely knowledgeable, professional and time managed when performing pond excavation projects. Over 30 years of combined pond excavation and service experience is offered.
